about

This track was written and recorded for Song Fu, a songwriting challenge, in May 2012. This song answered the challenge: “Write an upbeat, danceable song telling the story of some kind of battle.” - given by Bill Corbett.

It was inspired by our recent trip to Las Vegas. We loved Las Vegas, just to be clear.

lyrics

The drum beats, and the lights flash and we are all transported
to a time in the past where people sailed across the sea
The epic battle opens with a scared and lost young sailor
passing through a crowd of bachelor parties, drunks and families

There's nothing like a weirdly corporate sexualized pirate battle
As the sun sets over all the gambling, bars and candy shops
why do folks from other countries come to see Las Vegas
Is there a way that we can make them stop?

Because there's nothing more American than pirates
performing to a drunk and sunburned throng
There's nothing more American than scantily-clad women
lip-syncing and stripping to an awful hip-hop song
at Treasure Island

it's a free attraction so you really shouldn't miss it
and if you squint your eyes, you hardly notice that it doesn't have a plot!
The skanky leather outfits and bad accents carry you away
So forget your fears, concerns & money that you lost at slots

Because there's nothing more American than pirates
performing to a drunk and sunburned throng
There's nothing more American than scantily-clad women
lip-syncing and stripping to an awful hip-hop song
at Treasure Island
